  • Hi, I am looking for a mooring pendant to attach to the bow ring of a 23' Boston Whaler that weights 4,800lbs. It will be only used for storms if we can't get the boat out of the water in time. Does this 5/8" x 10' dual thimble pendant seem suitable or would you suggest something else? Also what kind of shackles should I get to attach this pendant to the bow ring on one end and the mooring chain on the other? Do I need a swivel? Thanks very much for any help!

Thank you for your question, during storm it is much more safety attach to the bow cleat with splice eye(loop), the cleat is just designed for mooring specially during storms. The bow ring is designed only for tow the boat and secure it to the trailer.
No swivels are necessary. And the 5/8 shackle is good to attach the line to the mooring.
5/8" rope is a little overkill, but will be good during storms if you use only one line. Two lines of 1/2" will be better, you have more balance during storms, the lines should be around 2 1/2 times the freeboard (the distance from the deck to the waterline).
I recommend two lines of 1/2" x 8' with thimble on one end and splice soft eye on other end.
Please let ne know if you need more help.
